🧠Momma Mental Overload

momma mental overload

Motherhood is one of the most rewarding journeys, but it can also be one of the most mentally exhausting. As moms, we often find ourselves juggling countless responsibilities, leaving little room to breathe, let alone thrive. This mental overload can creep up on us, leaving us drained, stressed, and struggling to find balance. But here’s the truth: you’re not alone. I’m right there with you, navigating the chaos of motherhood and life.

My Personal Struggle with Mental Overload

I’ll be honest—I still struggle with mental overload. Raising my 10-year-old son, Cannon, as a solo parent is no easy feat. Cannon is full of energy, participates in year-round sports, and faces high demands in learning due to his dyslexia. Supporting him requires patience, energy, and a lot of creative problem-solving.

But my responsibilities don’t stop there. I’m also a grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren, ranging from 5 months old to 5 years old. Add in owning two businesses that thrive on the creative version of me, and you can probably guess how thinly stretched I often feel. The creative side of me doesn’t function well unless I’m actively and intentionally practicing self-care. And trust me, carving out that time is a challenge.

What is Mental Overload?

Mental overload is the invisible weight of all the tasks, responsibilities, and emotional labor we carry as moms. It’s the mental checklist of school forms, sports schedules, doctor’s appointments, and meal planning—all while trying to ensure our kids feel loved and supported. When we don’t address this weight, it can lead to chronic fatigue, irritability, anxiety, and burnout.

Coping with Mental Overload

Managing mental overload isn’t about striving for perfection—it’s about finding strategies that work for you. Here are some ways I’ve learned to cope, even while still figuring it out myself:

1. Prioritize Self-Care

I can’t pour from an empty cup, and neither can you. For me, self-care looks like taking 10 minutes to journal, enjoying a cup of coffee in silence, or taking a walk. It’s not always grand gestures; sometimes it’s just small, consistent actions that remind me to breathe.

2. Delegate and Ask for Help

I’ve learned to lean on others when I can. Whether it’s asking family members to watch the grandkids or carpooling with another parent for Cannon’s sports, sharing the load is essential.

3. Set Boundaries

It’s okay to say no. I’ve had to learn to protect my time and energy by setting boundaries with work, social commitments, and even family.

4. Practice Grace and Realism

Not every day will go smoothly, and that’s okay. Some days, my “to-do” list doesn’t get done, and instead of beating myself up, I try to focus on what I did accomplish.

5. Lean Into Community

I’ve found strength in connecting with other moms who understand the struggle. Sharing stories, advice, and even laughter can be a powerful way to lighten the mental load.

Empowering Yourself

One of the ways I’ve learned to manage my mental overload is by embracing the tools and mindset shifts I teach in my programs, like Empowered Woman Unleashed. These resources are designed to help women like us:
